TL;DR Copilot Summary
SPAKL is an AI-powered repair assistant developed by Alpyne 365 whose patent-pending process helps users diagnose and fix household or automotive issues using image recognition and contextual input. By snapping a photo and adding a brief description, users receive a clear diagnosis, step-by-step instructions, tool recommendations, risk assessments, tutorial videos, and referrals to local professionals. Designed to empower DIYers and professionals alike, SPAKL was born from a hands-on passion for tech-enabled problem-solving and aims to make repairs more accessible, intuitive, and confidence-building for everyone.
How it Works | Snap ’n Fix
Snap. As easy as point and click. Take one photo, and ⌬ SPAKL gives you a clear diagnosis, a list (with links) to the right tools and supplies, simple step-by-step instructions, a quick risk assessment, relevant DIY videos, and even nearby local pros if you’d rather not go it alone. You decide if you want to DIY it, or simply delegate.
’n. This is where context comes in. While SPAKL nails the diagnosis most of the time, a little detail from you goes a long way. Say you upload a photo of a Honda CR-V’s dashboard with no explanation, SPAKL might guess, but it can’t read your mind. Add a quick note like “my seat moves back when I shut the car off,” and suddenly you get the exact fix: “Turn off Easy Entry/Exit in Settings.” 😉 The rule is simple: the more specific you are, the better SPAKL can help.
Fix. Now comes the fun part: actually fixing it. SPAKL’s results page is designed to walk you through the thought process in the right order:
- Diagnosis: Ohhh, so that’s what’s happening.
- Tools: Do I already have what I need?
- Instructions: That doesn’t look too bad, I can try this.
- Risk Assessment: How risky or urgent is it?
- Tutorial Videos: Let me watch someone else do it first.
- Local Pros: Okay, I’ll call in backup.
- Sharing: Get a second pair of eyes, or hands.
- Saved Projects & Recent Lookups: Put a pin in a project for later and easily refer back to what you’re tackling.
- Video Catalog & Tools List: Perfect go-to for a quick reference for any job at hand.
And more. Phase two has even more in store.
FIX ANYTHING. FASTER.

Backstory
So where did this all start? Because yep, we built this from literally nothing. Honestly, the idea just showed up one day and wouldn’t leave. I’d been tinkering with AI tools like Copilot’s image recognition while also touching up paint and repairing baseboards at home (thanks to my Luna’s infatuation with gnawing on them from time to time). That’s when it clicked.
I’ve always been hands-on, whether it’s building, fixing, or helping friends and family out. Alpyne’s whole mission is about helping people feel more capable, and with my tech background, SPAKL felt like the perfect bridge.
We’ve all been there, you see something broken, you know it needs fixing, but you have no idea where to start. In the AI age, that shouldn’t be a barrier anymore. SPAKL is my answer to that moment of “stuck.” If it helps even one person push past that wall, it’s worth it.
It all boiled down to one question:
What if an app could give anyone the confidence to fix things they’d normally never attempt?
One fix leads to another. Confidence grows. And pretty soon, people can pass those skills on. That’s the spark that turned into SPAKL.
It all starts with a single line of code.
I kicked this thing off like I usually do: with a bit of doodlin’. I find things go a little smoother when I poke around with the design, build, and coding once I have a clear vision on what the logo, color scheme, and style should look like. And when it feels right, it’s right. It took a few days to nail that to the point that I liked it and SPAKL was the name and the color scheme just made sense to match Alpyne’s. I loved the name SPAKL because it inherently has a repair-esque quality to it and it’s short and kinda fun to say. And if it ever took off, users could be called SPAKL-ers. Which.. yeah, we’ll see.
Beyond the graphic design side, of course there were challenges. I had no support team and had never built a mobile app for Android or iOS outside the Microsoft world. But that’s never stopped me before. Most of what I do now I once knew nothing about, so, in spite of having no support, I decided to just go for it. If I failed, so what?
All I really had was an idea. I knew I didn’t have the first clue how to build an app but I come from a technical background, I mean, how hard could it be (🤦)? At the very least, I could get it started until I could partner with someone to fill in my skill gaps. But it felt like a disservice to wait for the “stars to align”.
Two days in, I had a proof of concept that could analyze images. By the end of the first week, I had a working product. A week and a half later, I navigated the quagmire of Apple & Google partnerships and had stable Android and iOS builds. By the two-week mark, I had added caching, stability improvements, and sharing features. The next couple of weeks I added even more features and controls and polished it up for submission to Apple & Google. And all throughout I constantly broke everything and made things even better after fixing what I broke.
I don’t know exactly where this will go, but it’s always better to try than to wonder. Even if nothing else happens, I’ve learned a lot and I believe this can help people. It’s the perfect mix of the can-do spirit of DIY and the power of modern technology.
Tech meets humanity. Productively.
SPAKL isn’t a Microsoft project, but it definitely aligns perfectly with Alpyne’s mission to keep Moving Mountains. It’s a testament to our dedication to bridging the gap between imagination and technical know-how. And like our main focus, SPAKL is a tool with one simple goal:
Helping you fix anything. Faster. Get started on that thing you’ve been putting off today.
Check out these examples of SPAKL just kinda doin’ its thing. It’s a wildly versatile tool for DIYers and Professionals alike. The screenshots here are from a pre-release version of SPAKL so it’s definitely subject to change without notice.
